One week ago, on June 3, 2005, the State of Nebraska's unicameral legislature passed, and Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman signed into law, Legislative Bill 645 (LB 645), which "prohibits agencies, political subdivisions, and public power suppliers from providing" broadband Internet access to businesses and residents of the State of Nebraska.

Kermit Brashear, Speaker of the Nebraska Unicameral

LB 645 was introduced into the Nebraska legislature by Kermit Brashear, Speaker of the Unicameral.

LB 645, in addition to prohibiting public utilities and municipalities in the state from providing business and residents with broadband Internet access, establishes a "Broadband Services Task Force" to look into various aspects of this issue.

Broadband over Power Line World spoke today with Nebraska Unicameral Speaker Kermit Brashear about LB 645.
