Texas State Representative Phil King, chair of the Regulated Industries Committee of the Texas House of Representatives

Texas Representative Phil King is the Chairman of the Regulated Industries Committee in the Texas House of Representatives, a recently-created committee whose responsibility it is "to address the telecommunications, electric power, and pipeline industries" in Texas.

Chairman King spoke this afternoon with Broadband over Power Line World about a wide variety of subjects relating to the regulations (or de-regulations), technology, financing, and politics of the currently creatively fermenting broadband access scene, including a discussion of the special circumstances surrounding the deployment of broadband over power line in Texas.

Of particular interest was the fact that a conservative Republican from Texas (Representative King) and a liberal Democrat from California (CPUC Commissioner Susan Kennedy, who prior to taking that job was "Cabinet Secretary and Deputy Chief of Staff in the administration of Governor Gray Davis") should have arrived at very similar positions regarding the best way to facilitate a rapid and effective deployment of the latest broadband technology, namely: reducing regulation and allowing market forces to make the collective decisions that will drive the development and implementation of new forms of telecommunication.
