New York State Senator Michael Balboni
Michael Balboni is a New York State Senator, representing the people of the 7th State Senatorial District, in northern Nassau County.
Senator Balboni previously served on the now-defunct "negotiated rule committee" of stakeholders involved in discussions about implementing uniform state driver's licenses as called for in federal legislation passed and signed into law in December, 2004.
The passage and signing yesterday by President George W. Bush of the REAL ID Act of 2005 eliminates the operations of that "negotiated rule committee" and imposes uniform standards for the issuance of driver's licenses by the states according to the provisions of this legislation.
Senator Balboni spoke this afternoon with American Politics Today about the passage of the REAL ID Act of 2005 and about the impact of that legislation on the operations of the driver licensing process in New York State and throughout the U.S.
