Green Party spokesman denounces Obey-Frank "Let the People Decide Clean Campaign Act" (H.R. 4694) as a ploy to entrench the Democratic-Republican political duopoly

On February 3, 2006, American Politics Today published an audio interview with U.S. Representative Barney Frank (D-MA), in which the Congressmember explained and argued in favor of a bill authored by U.S. Representative David Obey (D-WI), since given the number H.R. 4694, the "Let the People Decide Clean Campaign Act."

American Politics Today spoke this afternoon with Brent McMillan, National Political Director of the Green Party of the United States, during which interview Mr. McMillan denounced HR. 4696 as an effort by Democrats to exclude third-party candidates, particularly those from the Green Party, from competitiveness in elections where they are increasingly challenging Democratic Party candidates.

possibly less-objectionable ways of achieving public financing of Congressional campaigns

During the interview, Mr. McMillan said that the Green Party would be looking at an alternative public campaign finance bill from Massachusetts Congressmember John Tierney and might also consider drafting its own public funding bill, for which it would then seek Congressional sponsors, since there are currently no members of the Green Party serving in the U.S. House of Representatives (or the U.S. Senate).
