both sides in anti-Proposition 71 lawsuit respond orally to questions from Judge Sabraw
A court hearing was held today at the Hayward Hall of Justice in Alameda County, California, to hear oral arguments from all parties involved in the "reverse bond validation action" consolidating separate lawsuits brought against the Independent Citizens' Oversight Committee (ICOC) established by Proposition 71 when it was approved by California voters in November, 2004.
Bringing the case against the ICOC were lawyers for People's Advocate, et al., and for California Family Bioethics Council, LLC. Defending against the lawsuit on behalf of the Independent Citizens' Oversight Committee (ICOC); Robert N. Klein, its Chairperson; Zach W. Hall, President of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM); California State Treasurer Phil Angelides; State Controller Steve Westly; the CIRM; the State of California; and the California Stem Cell Research and Cures Finance Committee, was Tamar Pachter, a Deputy Attorney General with the State of California.
Present in the courtroom but not involved in arguing the issues of the case today was Dana Cody, Executive Director of the Life Legal Defense Foundation, and an attorney representing plaintiffs in this case People's Advocate and the National Tax Limitation Foundation.

Remcho, Johansen & Purcell and Special Counsel to the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM), who said, among other things, that, should his side prevail, "I would be surprised if the plaintiffs don't appeal."
