California's Joint Legislative Audit Committee (JLAC) this morning voted to conduct audits of the HAVA funds provided to the state by the Election Assistance Commission, as well as of the spending practices of the state's Parks & Recreation Department and of the Caltrans' Toll Bridge Seismic Safety Retrofit Program.
The audit of HAVA spending had been called for by California Assemblymember Dave Cox, who represents the 5th Assembly District, because he felt that certain irregularities in the spending of HAVA funds by California Secretary of State Kevin Shelley needed to be investigated.
