Etopia Media Voting News reports on issues of politics and technology, in particular the effort now underway in the U.S. to build and deploy electronic voting machines that will ensure fair and free elections. EMVN reports on the controversies surrounding the issue of providing a "voter-verified paper audit trail" (VVPAT) as part of DRE (Direct Recording Electronic) ("touchscreen") voting machines.

Promised Pentagon Files on SERVE

EMVN will also be publishing a number of previously-unreleased documents, which have been promised to it by the United States Department of Defense, following the filing of a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with that agency, that may shed light on some unanswered questions and questionable anomalies regarding the Pentagon's "Secure Electronic Registration and Voting Experiment" (SERVE), which was cancelled in late January. 2004, by Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, just as the $22 million dollars appropriated to develop this intended state-of-the-art remote Internet voting system for use in the November, 2004, election, ran out.
