Commissioners of the United States Election Assistance Commission

Although it is the only agency in the federal government empowered to develop Remote Internet Voting System Standards (RIVSS), having been so authorized in Section 567 of the 2005 Defense Authorization Act, the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) has now said that it has no plans to do so.

In an e-mail sent today to Etopia Media Voting News (EMVN), Kay Stimson, who previously served as Director of Communications and Marketing for the National Association of Secretaries (NASS) and was appointed, effective October 27, 2004, to serve as the new Director of Communications at the EAC, provided, in response to a previous e-mail from EMVN inquiring about the EAC's plans to develop an RIVSS so that military personal and overseas Americans eligible to vote in federal elections could do so securely and conveniently using the latest Internet technology, provided this comment:

"The U.S. Election Assistance Commission does not have any FY05 agenda items regarding the development of standards for Internet voting systems.  While the Commission does plan to address this issue at a future date, the timetable for doing so has not been established."
