Nicole Young is a Senior Policy Analyst at the National League of Cities (NLC), "the oldest and largest national organization representing municipal governments throughout the United States. Its mission is to strengthen and promote cities as centers of opportunity, leadership, and governance."
Ms. Young spoke today with Broadband Wireless Access World about what NLC is doing to protect the right of its member cities to provide local residents with the broadband connectivity that feel will help them to reach their full potential.
During that conversation she indicated that U.S. cities, in cooperation with other organizations representing counties and states, will be able to successfully stand up for the interests, as they perceive them, of municipalities against the lobbying efforts of telephone companies and cable companies seeking to restrict their ability to build and operate Wi-Fi networks designed to eliminate the digital divide, spur business development, increase public safety, stimulate education, and perform other functions as deemed appropriate by local government acting on behalf of local populations.
