The "next big thing" in Internet connectivity is "broadband wireless access" (BWA), the delivery of an Internet connection through thin air with radio waves. WiFi (802.11x) is the interoperative standard for doing so within a small radius. WiMAX (802.16) is the emerging standard for doing so within a much larger one.

Alvarion is a leading BWA company and one of the three companies, along with Intel and Siemens, which recently participated in a model deployment and test of its "WiMAX-ready" BWA systems in Houston County, Georgia.

You can read a news report of the successful completion of that test by clicking here.

Patrick Leary, Alvarion's Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Chief Evangelist

Patrick Leary is the Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Chief Evangelist at Alvarion. He spoke today with Broadband Wireless Access World (BWAW) about the emerging WiMAX interoperability standard, its own pre-certified WiMax platform, BreezeMAX, the Houston County test deployment, and the potential of BWA to provide more, broader bandwidth, and less-expensive Internet connections in cities and countryside, in developed and less-developed counties, now and going forward.

You can hear what he had to say by clicking here.
