Verizon Statement on Philadelphia’s Wi-Fi Announcement

PHILADELPHIA
-- Philadelphia officials yesterday announced the details of the city’s Wireless Philadelphia plan, which would provide wireless high-speed (or “Wi-Fi”) Internet access within the city limits. Verizon issued the following statement in response.

"We will closely review the details of the city’s Wireless Philadelphia proposal to see if there are opportunities for Verizon to fit into the process.

"Broadband telecommunications service is a vital community resource, and Verizon is one of Pennsylvania’s leading broadband providers. Nearly 96 percent of our phone lines in Philadelphia are broadband-capable, and Verizon Wireless offers a wireless high-speed Internet service that blankets the city."
