On October 25, 2005, the City Council of the City of Anaheim, on a 5-0 vote, approved a proposal to grant an exclusive 20-year municipal broadband wireless Internet franchise to EarthLink to build out a citywide Wi-Fi network covering the entire 50 square miles under the city's jurisdiction.

A public hearing to consider the terms of that franchise is scheduled for November 15, 2005. Arrangements are on track for this agreement between the City of Anaheim and EarthLink to take effect on January 6, 2006.
