Mary "Mary Carey" Cook, porn star and possible independent candidate for California Lt. Governor, 2006
In the October 7, 2003, Statewide Special Election that made action film star Arnold Schwarzenegger Governor of California, former child star Gary Coleman and porn star Mary Carey also finished in the top ten, out of 135 candidates.
All three of these media professionals received more votes in that election than Republican William Simon, who, as the Republican nominee for Governor,
lost to incumbent Governor Gray Davis in November, 2002,
dropped out of the recall election to replace Davis in 2003, and is now
running for California State Treasurer in the (already underway) 2006 election.

Mr. Simon is not the only candidate from the 2003 statewide California election who seemingly cannot stay away from the campaign trail.

As has been
widely-reported Mary Carey attended last night's Presidential (Republican fundraising) Dinner after her producer paid $5,000 to the Republican National Committee (RNC) and she took the opportunity presented by the attendant publicity to announce that she'd be running for Lt. Governor of California in 2006.
Ms. Carey was previously interviewed by phone by a precursor to
California Politics Today about the issues during the 2003 recall election, while she was running for Governor of California.
