an interview with Verizon spokesperson Bill Kula

In some areas of the U.S., Verizon Communications now offers a high-speed Internet service called FiOS, and, in a limited-but-growing number of locations, it offers, in competition with cable television and satellite delivery of video, FiOS TV.

FiOS (pronounced "FYE’-ose") is "the new suite of fiber-optic services over FTTP [fiber-to-the premises], an advanced fiber-optic technology that can be used to connect a home or business directly to Verizon’s network."

In order to provide Etopia Media News Networks' Entertainment Technology World's audience with the latest and most complete information about FiOS, ETW yesterday spoke at length (90 minutes) with Bill Kula, Director-Western Bureau Media Relations, Verizon Communications, about FiOS, covering such topics as how it works, what it delivers, where it's available, how it is being franchised, and the impact it will have on the delivery of Internet connectivity and the provision of video programming.
