Fon is a system for providing global Wi-Fi access through a network of "foneros" who connect Fon-compliant Wi-Fi transceivers to their broadband Internet connections and then sell or give away Internet access to "Linuses," "Bills," and "Aliens."

You can read more about the arrival in the U.S. of the Fon system by clicking on the blog entry of Internet entrepreneur and Fon founder Martin Varsavsky entitled "A Dream Come True.".
