Samsung Mobile B250

Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung) today unveiled an impressive array of technologies, products and marketing strategies at the company’s fifth annual technology showcase in New York City on Nov. 8 and 9, demonstrating why the company continues to raise industry expectations and consumers’ eyebrows.

With a message of “Bandwidth, Mobility and Design,” Samsung’s three telecom product groups – Mobile, Wireless & Broadband Network Systems, and Business Communication Systems (BCS) – articulated the company’s vision for convergence and demonstrated its technical and design innovations that are creating new consumer and enterprise experiences.
"We believe bandwidth, mobility and design are equally important in creating a truly converged experience for consumers and enterprises," said Jeong Han Kim, president of Samsung Telecommunications America. "This event allows us to demonstrate how Samsung is bringing convergence to life through our industry-leading technology, award-winning designs and influential branding programs. We’re one of the only companies in the world that can make such a statement."

Advancing the mobility message, Samsung’s Wireless & Broadband Network Systems group outlined the company’s plans to be the first company to commercially launch a mobile high-speed data access system – Mobile WiMax – next year. Samsung plans to roll out WiBro in 84 Korean cities in the first half of 2006, offering throughput speeds of up to 30 Mbps. The group announced it is engaged in lab and field trials with Sprint Nextel aimed at driving the development of advanced wireless broadband services.

Samsung’s BCS group confirmed that the company’s vision for convergence expands beyond the consumer experience and includes the convergence of wireless and wireline enterprise telephony. Samsung announces Wireless Softswitch (WSS) for the U.S. and a Media Gateway (MGW)

Samsung also today unveiled a new CDMA core network solution that the company expects to commercially offer U.S. wireless network operators by the end of the first quarter of 2006. The solution includes a Wireless Softswitch (WSS) for the U.S. and a Media Gateway (MGW).

Samsung’s core network solution is an advanced, next-generation mobile switching center (MSC) that gives wireless operators a highly flexible, scaleable architecture that supports an open architecture operating system and shares a common server platform for WCDMA (MSC server), CDMA (WSS), Wireline (SS) and IMS Server Applications. It continues to support legacy wireless services such as voicemail, SMS, push-to-talk, and music ring-back tones.

Specifically, Samsung’s WSS supports next-generation network protocols SIP, VoiceXML, and Megaco, making it a future-ready solution that allows subscribers to easily migrate to new, advanced packet-based IMS services via a simple software upgrade. Samsung’s IMS provides next generation wireless services including Voice over IP (VoIP), multimedia conferencing, networked gaming, location-based services, instant messaging, and IP-TV.
