an interview about impeachment with New Mexico State Senator Steve Komadina

Steve Komadina represents the 9th State Senatorial District in New Mexico.

He spoke this afternoon with Impeachment Channel about his opposition to the impeachment of George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney and explained why he believes that four allegedly impeachable offenses often cited as reasons for such an impeachment lack merit. These four actions are: violating the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA); deceiving Congress and the public as to the reasons for invading Iraq; condoning torture in violation of the Geneva Conventions; and violating the Constitutional separation of powers by issuing "signing statements" qualifying his acceptance of Congressional legislation.

In the course of that interview, Senator Komadina also denied that there was an organized boycott by Republican Senators at the Rules Committee's consideration of Senate Joint Resolution 5, a resolution calling on the U.S. House of Representatives to begin the impeachment of George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney, co-authored by State Senator Gerald Ortiz y Pino, during its consideration, and passage on a 5-0 vote, on February 16, 2007, with all five votes coming from Democratic members of that panel in the absence of any Republican members.
