a defeat for nuclear power in California in Sacramento
On Monday, April 16, 2007, California AB 719, the “California Zero Carbon Dioxide Emission Electrical Generation Act of 2007,” which would have removed the requirement in California law that there be a certified and operating depository for high-level nuclear waste before any new nuclear power plants could be built in the state, was defeated by a 3-to-6 vote in the Natural Resources Committee of the State Assembly.
Fresno Nuclear Power Group, undeterred, will launch nuclear initiative for 2008
Meanwhile, in California’s Central Valley, the Fresno Nuclear Power Group said it would move forward with its plans to put an initiative on one of California’s three 2008 ballots to authorize the construction of two 1,600 megawatt nuclear power plants in their community.
Nuclear Power Channel reporter Marc Strassman spoke this morning with Fresno Nuclear Energy Group President/CEO John Huston about those plans and his group’s commitment to nuclear power as one part of what they see as the state’s necessary energy future.
